Heat stroke in the summer is very common particularly here in NC for the elderly. Why? Because as we age we forget, forget to drink water! Hydration is the number one way to prevent heat stroke in the summer.

The second most common way is to avoid heat stroke is to stay inside with quality air circulation and avoid being outside as much as possible.

Encourage mom and dad to wear light colored, loose fitting clothing. This will allow for air flow around their body more easily.

Cool showers through out the day can also help to bring body temps down. Particularly important if they were just out in the heat.

Lastly, encourage your elderly parents to participate in very lite activities. To much activity can cause increase in blood pressure and body temperature which can compound the effects of the external temperatures.
